Jon Stewart's show The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday at 11pm on Comedy Central, followed by Colbert's show The Colbert Report at 11:30pm. They usually make fun of today's politics using a style of comedy that is a parody of news media networks, such as Fox News and CNN. As it shows every night, they are never short on material. It's also no wonder that they are both great at what they do. Strangely enough, Colbert got his start on The Daily Show and eventually got his own show a few years later.
Although they both poke fun at politics and the media, they both approach it differently. The Daily Show mainly is a parody for news media in general, satirizing the media and how they handle politics. Here's a clip showing what parts of the show are really like.
Satire is really used everyday in many different ways, most of the time you probably aren't paying attention to it. Even Mark Twain used over 150 years ago. In my opinion, the kings of comedy have to be Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

I strongly agree with your feelings about these shows! My only complaint is that I'm rarely awake when they're on. We really need to start school an hour later! Or, I need to be better about checking Hulu for updates.
ReplyDeleteI personally love both The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and The Colbert Report by Steven Colbert. In saying that, I too see the definite satire in both of these shows which make them hilarious. However, if i could make one suggestion, I'd focus a little more on satire rather than the actual shows themselves. In general though great work and I look forward to reading youre upcoming blogs.
ReplyDeleteStewart and Colbert are great examples of satire. I love their shows, and the way they make fun of politics. I liked how you included a video with the post. Made it way better.
